How Our New Lawn Installation Process Works
We’ve installed dozens and dozens of new lawns for new homes and property developments throughout Ottawa. We are happy to get your new lawn installed by using ready-to-go sod that we can roll out or planting your new grass from seed the old fashioned way.
- We start with our initial virtual consultation and accurate measurements of your property.
- We assess the existing soil and rely on your historical information with respect to any grading/drainage issues. If the property has existing drainage issues, these should be addressed before laying new grass. (We can help! Check out our post on solving drainage problems).
- We will bring in top soil and spread as needed to ensure uniformity.
- We then lay your turf or plant your grass.
- The end result is a beautiful, lush green lawn!
For most average sized lawns this entire process can be completed in just 1-3 days. For much larger rural residential lawns or commercial properties the process can take longer but the end result is exactly the same. You’re going to end up with a beautiful, lush green lawn that will be ready to enjoy in just a few short weeks.

How much does it cost to install a new lawn?
Well, we all know that all yards are different. Where some require complete grading and topsoil, others only require sod rolled out. When you ask us how much it costs to install a new lawn, we will not give you a number we made up. We asses each project individually, inspect what it actually requires, and provide you with a straightforward price. No hidden fees. No guesswork.
Is sod better than grass seed for a new lawn?
Depends on your project. Sod will give you immediate results, but at a price. Hydroseeding is significantly less expensive, but takes a bit more time. We are happy to discuss both options and recommend the most appropriate one for your specific project.
What’s the process to install a new lawn?
It is simple, but we do not cut corners. We examine your grading and drainage first. Then we introduce new topsoil when necessary. Then we lay sod or seed, whichever you prefer. When we lay a new lawn, we do it once, and only once, so you do not have to call us back next spring.
How long before I can walk on my new lawn?
Sod? You’re good in about 2 to 3 weeks. Seed or Hydroseed? Once it’s ready to mow, you’re good to go. Typically 6 to 8 weeks. Either way, we will tell you just how to take care of it, day by day.
What if my soil is terrible or uneven?
No problem, we see that every day. We inspect your soil before installing any new lawns. If it’s compacted, rocky, or of poor quality, we correct it. An ideal lawn starts at ground level. We make sure that what’s below is as good as what’s above.
